Amazon Web Services approached SilvaSoft, Inc about contributing a Developer Voice article to their Simple Storage Service Resource Center. Their idea was to provide a tutorial (with supporting source code) for building a web-based management interface to their S3 service using Rails and the Amazon S3 REST API for Ruby. SilvaSoft had already created an open source console tool, written in Ruby, for working with Amazon S3 called rSh3ll. What sets S3 on Rails apart from most database backed CRUD Rails applications is that it is built entirely on top of a Amazon’s S3 REST API for Ruby and uses the Amazon S3 service for persistent storage. SilvaSoft delivered a very detailed article outlining the implementation of this application and in addition, made all the source code available. You can read more about Building a Web Application with Ruby on Rails and Amazon S3 and see why Rails and REST are make a perfect pair! |
